The best of North Wales

Castles, Coast, Culture and Cymraeg

Your private driver/guide will meet you at the passenger terminal at Holyhead Port on the island of Anglesey ready for your day out around North Wales.

We start the day with the short drive to the souring cliffs of South Stack/Ynys Lawd where you’ll have incredible views from the high cliffs out over the South Stack lighthouse and the Irish Sea. These cliffs are important breeding grounds for sea birds and between April and July, tens of thousands of Guillemots, Razorbills and the elusive Puffin gather on the cliff edges to give birth to their young. Through the summer, Heather and Gorse collide in a battle of purple and yellow flowers across the cliff-top moorland.

Next, we head onto the mainland and to the castle described by UNESCO as one of the most important examples of medieval military architecture in Europe. Caernarfon Castle is one of the most impressive of Edward 1st’s medieval castles and occupies a commanding position at the southern end of the beautiful Menai Strait. The castle was the main seat of Edward 1st during his early conquest of Wales and its royal connections continue into modern times with it being the site of the investiture of Prince Charles, now Charles 111.

We’ll then head through the mountains and valleys of Eryri/the Snowdonia National Park.  Majestic mountains, deep green valleys, sparkling lakes, tumbling waterfalls, and bubbling rivers are everywhere you in this area that holds the highest mountains in the country.

Soon we arrive at the bustling estuary town of Conwy where we have time for a late lunch and exploration of this pretty town with its medieval castle, pretty fishing quay, the smallest house in Britain and other attractions.

Finally, we’ll head back over to your cruise ship stopping at the village with the longest name in Europe before dropping you back off at your cruise vessel.

Pick-up and drop-off times at Holyhead generally depend on the docking times of your cruise ship and tides. We’ll discuss and agree on these individually with each booking based on your cruise ship timings on the day.
